Rich Affair;(5.1L) 3rd ($4.60-$3.70); shuffled back a bit in the run ran home well along the fence for third, the race was over on the corner when the two leaders were clear.

Fragonard;(1.1L) 4th ($4.50-$4.60); probably got a little further back than we envisaged from his draw, ran on okay without threatening. Very Disappointing in our opinion.

Oink;(0.5L) 2nd ($5.50-$8); We were a little disappointed in the ride on this horse, thought there was an opportunity early to push on and sit outside the second horse at the time(Lucky Tom) instead of being snagged back and then caught 3 wide for a couple of hundred meters and then pushing forward, in the meantime Hanwritten had skipped 5 lengths clear on the corner, had to do way too much. This horse did a great job  to be beaten only half a length, I wouldn’t be rushing into back him next start though this would have been a  gut buster (unless he has a nice freshen)

Last Armageddon;(6.7L) 10th ($31-$26); thought he had a good run in transit but when asked for an effort in the straight he did nothing

Summary

 13 winners in our top 4 selections last Saturday with 5 on top Enbihaar the best at $10, OUR BEST produced a second Oink at $8 and Rich Affair third at $4.60, the other runner Fragonard finished 4th. Exotics First Four $867.10, five Trifectas best being $245.80 and $203 along with nine Quinella/Exactas, so all round not a bad day out. We highlighted in our pre meeting summary that there were a lot of tricky races and that is how it unfolded and usually plays out with some huge exotic dividends and did (none fell our way unfortunately). This time of the year in Sydney and Melbourne there are a lot of horses on a journey to bigger races so they use these meetings as stepping stones to their last hurrah. Remembering they are just not fit enough to be winning early on in their prep, hence we end up with tricky races. Like in any sport the ELITE ARE THE ONES THAT WILL PERFORM (GROUP LEVEL) FROM START ONE after a spell, Winx, Hartnell, Black Heart Bart and Redzel to name some but there aren’t many. Doomben Track Good; Warwick Farm Track Good; Caulfield Track Good; Our Best; Doomben race 7 Rich Affair($4.60) two duck eggs after a spell but don’t let that deter you, last start was in a much stronger race than this and he should have finished closer than the 3.5L he was beaten and his first start after a spell he was wide all the way. He is well in here after the 3kilo claim with 56.5kgs he is well drawn at 3 and should possie up somewhere just behind the speed, expecting a big return to form. Caulfield race 9 Fragonard($4.50) you might get better odds than this as it is a strong Group 3 mares event. Quite simply she is a pistol first up, smashes the distance and drawn to get her preferred run in 3 up on the pace, so lets hope Lane doesn‘t snag her back and bury her. If she is near them on the corner HALLELUJAH! she is Our Best. Doomben race 10 Oink($5.50) might get better odds also as this is a very competetive race and he has drawn wide(usually suicide around here) but we feel he will drift back and with 56kgs will give him the opportunity to let down in the straight. He meets Of The Day 3.5kgs better here and was only beaten a length last start, A BIG CHANCE. Doomben race 9 Last Armaggedon($31) a longshot? we think he is a better chance than that, this horse has a very consistent record and likes to possie up just off the pace. This fellow has a few little quirks but if apprentice Guthmann-Chester(3kgs) can handle him he will be there when the whips are cracking. Lots of races today are tricky affairs none more so than the Eskimo Stakes at Warwick Farm, six runners all with a chance but having said that Siege Of Quebec might just run them off their legs. The C.F.ORR , we really fancied Black Heart Bart in this, so with him out it becomes a bit tricky. There will be a fair bit of pace in this race Tsahitsi, Lord Of The Sky and Thronum, we have Brave Smash on top Bart’s stablemate he definitely performs better second up and he should get a good run in behind the leaders, if he is on their hammer at the distance watch out.
