SR5 H8 MIDNIGHT OPAL($9.50); unbeaten colt jumping from a Class1 to a Listed race. He has been impressive and is beautifully bred. Nice time for the distance at Kembla Grange and his closing sectionals in his 2 races have been good. Soft track won’t deter his chances, he has won leading or coming just off the pace. We expect him to acquit himself with distinction here.
MIDNIGHT OPAL($12); 4th beaten 1.6L, got further bac k than we thought he would.Not a lot of galloping room in the straight when clear ran on strongly out wide. We will be following him next start big time.
SUMMARY: Cox Plate day at The Valley and a cracking race it is. Seven top chances ,we will give our top 5. Alligator Blood($6.50) on top for us forget he went around last year on a heavy track the drier the better for him because a swimmer he is not. We think he will lead here and easily the Blood can reel off a super fast last 600M at the highest level. Had an easy win last start super tough to run down. Mr. Brightside($8) what a great horse he is and his last start was good considering he had a 4 week break. He will be coming fast. Romantic Warrior($3.70) what a great record this horse has over this distance. I would assume he would park up on speed Group1 galloper all the way. Zaaki($21) not going to leave this bloke out of calculations. He has been racing as well as ever being beaten 0.5L by Fangirl first up over 1400M and second up ran 2nd in the 7 Stakes beaten 0.06L and Fangirl 2L further back. On speed he will be in our exotics for sure. Duais($34) now this mare is back in good form and is a genuine G1 player. She ran home stylishly behind the Blood last sart, Ollie will have the persuader out big time the last 50M. Great race indeed. The mares Invitation over 1400M at Randwick and Espiona($3.30) certainly was a little unlucky in the Everest not to figure in the top 4. This distance is her go and she handles all conditions. Love to see her steaming down the outside on her lonesome. Magic Time($3.70) has a good record and a nice win last start. She should park on the speed and the soft track won’t bother her. Opal Ridge($8.50) another consistent mare handles all conditions, she will drift back off the speed. Gets home hard. Alcohol Free($16) forget she went around in the Everest, second up is not her forte and 3rd up bounces back. She just might take it up here and her last run not that bad really finishing 6.19L from the winner. Parisal($9.50) rounds out our top 5. Decent race loaded with a lot of consistent mares. We think a lot of races (supressed markets) today will be won by horses tight in the market. Only the one in Our Best this week. Plenty of winners in our top 4 last week so plenty of action available. We are having a great run in the big races lately the top gallopers always seem to run to their optimum. So let’s choose our races wisely. Soft tracks in Bris Vegas and Sydney but they could be upgraded.
