MR5 H9 QUAFILA($15); Run well last start considering it sat wide the entire trip and only beaten 3.35lengths. Doesn’t do anything 2nd and third up (9 starts for no wins no placings). Loves the track and distance and won the group 1 South Austrlain Derby over the 2500m. So the step up to the 2400m is ideal. From barrier 3 can be up on speed or just behind the leading pair. Carries 54.5kgs dropping 4 kgs from last start. Ticks a lot of boxes here. She is our best !
QAFILA($17); 8th beaten 6.95L; she had a beautiful run behind the leader and took the lead on straightening, her run petered out at the distance. Looked disappointing initially, her jockey stated she needed the run. She has 51.5kgs in the Caulfield Cup a follow up at 50/1 for sure.
SR6 H8 AMANI GIRL($4.60); Ran well first up coming from the back and running on nicely beaten 2 lengths. Has placed in group 3 company before and arguably should have won the Frank Packer Plate (group3) last prep after being held up and not tested at all. From barrier 5 after scratchings should jump straight to the lead or take a sit behind if something takes it on. Loves the distance so the step up to the 1600m is ideal. Good chance in this race with 54kgs on her back.
AMANIGIRI($3.30); 3rd $1.60 a place beaten 1.4L; led them up but never looked like she would go on with it, held on for 3rd.
BR9 H13 THE TENOR($15); Ran well last start but the 59kgs told in the last 200m. Stepping up to the 1200m looks ideal as the horse will be able to settle into a better rythm. If the rain does arrive at Brisbane it wont bother him having won in the soft before and the breeding suggests that as well being by Your Song who was a swimmer. The track he loves 1 from 1 here. The 3kg weight drop to 56kgs looks ideal and with that weight and from barrier 1 he should lead outright in this field and be super hard to run down. Huge chance !
THE TENOR($12); 4th beaten 2L; could not have wished for a better run in transit, on the fence loomed large at the distance but died on his run every chance.
MR10 H1 BALL OF MUSCLE($9); Finished in last place last start. But he is not a group 1 horse he has proven that on 8 occasions. Back to a group 2 here. He will lead this field and dictate the pace and hopefully kick clear at the 200m. Loves the track and distance 58.5kg is no problem at all. The whips will be cracking with 100m to go.
BALL OF MUSCLE($8); 2ND $2.60 a place beaten 0.4L; sat outside the leader put paid to Despatch on the corner kicked clear fought on, just beaten by a better one on the day.
SR9 H1 BLACK MAGNUM($4.60); Has been racing really well this prep. The form around him is pretty good. 2 starts ago he ran second to God Of Thunder and Spanish Dream ran third. Spanish Dream came out and won next start. Ran second to Califonia Zimbol last start and that horse is in Melbounre contesting a group 3 race. Likes the track. Loves the distance and from barrier 1 can go staright to the lead and dictate the pace. Has a 1.5kg claim and drops 1kg from last start. And is adept in all conditions. Huge chance.
BLACK MAGNUM($5.50); 5th beaten 3.5L; challenged along the fence at the distance had every chance, another day for him with less weight?
Gotta love Spring Racing! Some fantastic fields today so lets dive in and talk about some of the group 1’s. The Thousand Guineas: Flit looks the obvious having no luck last start but if the pace is on we think Missile Mantra will steam home over the top of them. Emeralds is a sneaky chance for the exoctics !. Caulfiled Stakes: Avilius looks the horse to beat in this race, but the old boy Gailo Chop from barrier 1 will lead this field and if they leave him alone in front he will be hard to run down, definitely a target race for him. Caulfield Guineas: I think they are missing the obvious with Alligator Blood he has good tatical speed to overcome barrier 13 and can be up in the leading division, with the right run he is the one to beat again. The Toorak: we think Widgee Turf and Princess Jenni will be steaming home late and finish over the top of them. Randwick the Spring Champion Stakes hopefully Castelvecchio can get back to winning ways, after a flat second up perfromance and running home nicely first up the 2000m looks ideal. My colleague thinks Quick Thinker will be super hard to beat stepping out to 2000m and being by So You Think it will be no problem at all. Cant wait for todays racing to unfold and hopefully plenty of winners to boot. On that exciting note have a wondeful day and enjoy your racing. GOOD LUCK to all From Horsebuck$
